Re: Thomas Fitch of New London County, Conn. Lived in Chesterfield Village Section of Montville. b. Dec. 1, 1761, New London, CT OR Feb. 4, 1761, Norwich, CT. (Same Birthdate as Thomas Fitch of Preston, CT) Thomas of Montville Died September 2, 1855 in Chesterfield. Buried in Chesterfield Cemetary (have photos of monument and stones.) lst wife, Freelove Smith (father Paul) of Niantic, CT and 2nd wife, Mary Allen (daug. of Stephen Allen). Have death record for Thomas, but no birth certificate. HIS PARENTS ARE NOT Benejah Fitch and Wife Sarah Palmer of Preston. Their Son Thomas has birth date of Feb. 1761 listed in Norwich Vital Records. He lived in Preston and is buried there along with two wives. There is much confusion of same birthdates being given to both Thomas's and the coincidence of them having lived at the same time. Thomas of Montville was well-known for his commercial ventures and also had a large farm in Chesterfield area. All his children by Mary Allen were born there. It would clear up a real mystery if someone knows the FITCH parents of Thomas of Montville!!!
