Fishers of Wrentham, MA
Pliny Fisher was born in September, 1788, perhaps in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH [death certificate of his daughter, Julia (Fisher) Ripley], the natural child of Hannah Gould and, one presumes, one of the several Pliny Fishers of Wrentham, Norfolk, MA. He was taken into the family of Amos Walton of Wrentham as an apprentice to "the art or trade of a cordwainer" 9 July 1796, which trade he followed all his life [Julia Ripley death certificate]. He filed marriage intentions with Betsy Parker, dau. of William Parker and Elizabeth Fernald, 29 Aug 1814 in Steuben, Washington Co., Maine, where he served as a lieutenant in the Cavalry of the 2nd Brigade, 1820 Washington County Militia [1820 Maine Register]. Sometime after 1832 he and his family removed to Township 2, Range 2 (now Waite), Washington Co., Maine, where he and his family were among the earliest settlers. He died 15 Jul 1843 [gravestone] from being struck by lightning [Waite Town Records, per Mary Williams]. See "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register," 1988, Volume CXLII, Boston, "Strangers Taken Into Wrentham," p. 64.
