FISHER/SMITH, Lane Co. Oregon 1860
The following families, FISHER and SMITH are listed in the 1860, LAND CO. OREGON census. Can anyone further identify them?
Page 56, Coast Fork Precinct, Lane Co., Oregon
Cottage Grove Post Office
-- Thomas C. Smith, age 19, stage driver, b. Ohio
Page 67, Lost Valley Precinct, Lane County
Pleasant Hill Post Office
-- W. H. Fisher, age 42, Physician, b. Ohio
-- Rebecca Fisher, age 40,b. Ohio
-- Lizah J. Fisher, age 7, b. Oregon
-- George Fisher, age 4, b. Oregon
We are looking for a FISHER family, and in particular a George Fisher with connections to a SMITH family. Our g-grandfather, Thomas C. Smith is said to be the son of a Rebecca Fisher Smith, sister of one George Fisher. We do not know the name of Thomas' father, but his mother was born Rebecca Fischer/Fisher.Since he was born in Ohio we suspect that the Fisher family may also have an Ohio connection and have come to Oregon at about the same time, settling near one another as so many families did.
So far I have not found a Smith family with the wife named Rebecca and of the right age to be the parents of our Thomas. The Smith parents would probably have to be at least in their late 30s or early 40s to be the parents of Thomas who is listed age 19.
Any help appreciated.
Anne
