Will of William Fish Proved May Court 1751, Bertie County, North Carolina
The Fourth day of August, Anon Donis, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty

In the name of God, Amen. I, William Fish, of Edgecombe County in the Province of North Carolina, being sick in body but in good and perfect memory, thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to remembrance the uncertain estate of this transitory life, do make, constitute, ordain and declare this my last will and testament in method and form following, and do hereby revoke all former wills made by me, and this to be taken only for my last will and testament. I give and commit my sole unto Almighty God that gave it and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named, and as for such worldly goods as it has pleased God to bestow on me, I do order, give and dispose of as follows:

First, I will that all my just debts be discharged.

Item: I give and bequeath to my well-beloved son, John Fish, One Shilling Sterling, if lawfully demanded.

Item: I give and bequeath to my well-beloved daughter, Ann Ferrile, [sic] One Shilling Sterling, if lawfully demanded.

Item: I give and bequeath to my well-beloved son, William Fish, the plantation whereon I now live, and all its appertances, and one Negro boy named Petter, and further, my will is that my son, William, shall let his mother (in law?), Mary Fish, have use of the above plantation during her widowhood.

Item: I give and bequeath to my well-beloved daughter, Mary Fish, one hundred acres of land in Johnston County on the North Branch and one Negro woman named (?), and if my son, William Fish, should dye before he is of age, or has lawful issue, my will is that my daughter, Mary Fish, shall have and enjoy all by son William Fish's estate, and likewise, if my daughter, Mary Fish, should die before she comes of age, or has lawful issue, that then my will is that my son, William Fish shall have and enjoy all her estate, and if they should both happen to die without lawful issue, my grandson, William Fish, shall have and enjoy all of the estate of my son, William Fish, and my daughter, Mary Fish, (?) estate (?) if (?) give my grandson, John Fish, (?) and also my will is that my whole estate remaining shall be divided in three parts and I give one third part to my well-beloved wife, May [sic] Fish, and the other two parts to be sold and the money to be arisen to be equally divided between my son, William Fish, and my daughter, Mary Fish, except one gray stallion, one young sorrel mare and one young colt, and that the three I leave for the use of the plantation and not to sold at all. My will is also that my Negro fellow, Petter, shall be sold and the money be equally divided as aforesaid.

And I do, by these presents, nominate and appoint by trustee, my well-beloved son, John Fish, and my well-beloved wife, Mary Fish, to be executor and executrix to this, my last will and testament, and I do, by these presents, appoint my trusty and testators willingly to see that all of the articles of my will be fulfilled and overseen. Here I set my hand and seal on the day and year written.

William Fish of Edge.Co. to John Ferrall of Edge.Co. 10 Aug 1739, 10 pounds Virginia money, 100 acres more or less on Beaverdam, joining Wild Cat branch at the mouth, Darling branch and the swamp all houses, buildings part of 550 acres granted me. Witness: Elizabeth Alston, Thomas Kearney. Reg Edge.Co Nov Ct 1739 J. Edwards C. Ct. (Additional transaction made 2 Mar 1738 stating "part of 550 acres granted a patent to me.")

p. 373. William Fish to John Fish, 18 Dec 1740, 100 pounds, 150 acres more or less on the south side of Roanoke River, joining Thicket swamp and Bridge swamp all houses, buildings, etc. Witness: Elizabeth Egerton, John Egerton. Reg Edge.Co. Feb Ct 1741 Robert Foster C. Ct. (Also listed in Edgecombe County Deeds Book 1, p. 35.)
