Hi Cathy
This is the information I have picked up from several sources, mainly from 'MOTT' & 'CROSSLE', but also a few others. I have a lot of info on Finucanes as I have been chasing info on them for many years. There is only one 'N' in this Finucane, as far the records I have.
If you have any more info on Brian you could pass back, would be grateful.

LORD CHIEF JUSTICE OF NOVA SCOTIA, CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY (CONVERT ROLLS) 9 APRIL 1758.
PURCHASED BALLYORTLA 1765.
DIED UNMARRIED (This later disputed by comment below) AND WAS BURRIED AT ST. PAUL'S, HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA

Certified 26th july 1758, as a convert from popery. He entered the middle temple London, 2 jan 1759, called to the Irish Bar, Easter 1764, Commissioner Irish Court of Bankruptcy 1773, Chief Justice at Halifax, Nova Scotia 1777. died unmarried 1786. (This later disputed by comment below)

Also have copy of a publication (Gentleman's Magazine), page 144, which reads as follows,
Quote,
"FINUCANE OF CO. CLARE.
I am indebted to a Mr Terrance Punch of Armdale, Halifax, Nova Scotia, who has kindly furnished me with further information concerning the Hon. Brian Finucane, Chief Justice of Nova Scotia. Finucane was named as the Third chief Justice of Nova Scotia on 1st May 1778. Mss no. 411 in the Public Archives of N.V. shows that he owned land & houses valued at P250 in Halifax Co. in 1775 & 1776. Inventory of his Estate valued at just under P1000 dated 28 Nov 1786 is to be found in Halifax Probate Court where administration was granted to his widow, Anne Finucane. He did not, therefore, die unmarried as I stated on P. 3 Vol 1 of this Journal.
I have also found that the death of Capt. Donat Finucane in Brighton. leaving a widow and 5 young children in poor circumstances, caused general compassion and the Prince Regent took over the maintenance and education of two of the sons. The 5th child was a son, b. Brighton 25 July 1800 (Gentleman's Magazine). The dau. Emma (in fact Emma Aanne) m. Aug 1817 Lieut. Col. Horace Churchill, Grenadier Guards."
