Hugh Finigan (ontario) orphaned sons Richard, John

I'm trying to trace my Finnigan roots on my Grandmother's side. Her father was Francis Edmond Finnigan and his dad was Richard Finigan (originally spelled with one 'n' - changed, as the story goes, at the request of his wife, Jane Murray.) Richard was born in 1851 in Renfrew county. Family records indicate he had a brother, John. Both boys were orphaned and sent to different families to be raised. Somehow, the family lost track of John. I am descended from Richard's side. According to Richard's marriage certificate, his father (and John's) was named 'Hugh'. Mother's name on certificate is listed as "illegible' so I don't know who Hugh married. I do know that Richard eventually moved with his wife to Shawville, Quebec and that is where most of my Finnigan relatives are from. (My great uncle was Frank Finnigan, NHL hockey player.) Anyhow, I would love to be able to trace back a little further but, as most of my senior Finnigan relatives have passed, I do not have any more info. re: Hugh or John Finigan. If anyone has info I would love to hear from you.
