James Anderson Finney, son of Obediah and Janetta (Collins) Finney was born 11-Sep-1853 in Gap Civil, Ashe Co., NC. He died 21-Jul-1924 in Pulaski, VA and is buried in Jerusalem Methodist Church Cemetery, Fries, VA.
James married Sarah Jane "Sallie" Pauley, daughter of Josiah and Ann (Carrico) Pauley, ca 1873. Sarah was born Aug. 1850 in Wythe Co., VA. They had one daughter, Annie or Anna Belle, who was born ca 1873. James and Sarah were divorced sometime before 1880 because on the 1880 census of Wythe Co., VA, taken 15-Jun-1880, Sarah J. is listed as the wife of Joseph K. Lanter. Annie Bell Finnie (sic) is listed as his step-daughter.
On 01-Dec-1881, James married his second wife, Emma Belle Copeland, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Copeland. Emma was born 30-Aug-1860 in Wythe Co., VA and died 05-Jul-1937 in Speedwell, VA. She is buried in Jerusalem Methodist Church Cemetery, Fries, VA. James and Emma had four children.
Per Alleghany Co., NC, Marriage Register, Anne Finney married Joshua Shupe 03-Oct-1890. He was born 03-Jan-1868 in Wythe Co., VA, the son of Joel and Susanna (Jones) Shupe. Anna Belle died sometime before Jun 1900. I use this time frame because on the 1900 census her mother, Sarah J., indicated that she was the mother of one child and had no living children. Also on that same census, there is listed a grandson, George Shupe, age 6, living in the household of Joseph and Sarah Lanter. I'm speculating that he may have been the child of Joshua and Anna Belle Shupe and that Anna Belle may have died at his birth. However, I haven't followed through on this theory in my research.
