There may be a connection to the family of George Preston Finlay (1829-1911), whose biography can be found in the Handbook of Texas Online:

His wife, the former Carrie Rea, was noted for charitable works:

I think one of their daughters might have been named Carrie, and there might have been relatives in later generations also given the name.
George Finlay had a brother named Oscar, so the New Testament might be his, or someone named for him.
