Soldiers on farms
I have a general understanding that farms (in Western Finland) had a designated soldier of soldiers that were available should it be necessary.I know that most soldiers used a name other than their patronymic name.I suppose that these soldiers were available to Sweden before 1809 and Russia after 1809.I do not understand how farms designated or were assigned soldiers, how soldiers were trained, or how the soldiers lived.Did soldiers have uniforms and train on a routine basis? Were sons of soldier fathers generally soldiers too?Is there a website that might explain the lives of soldiers or can someone please explain?Thank you Mike Taimi
