Kimmo,
Thanks for the information.I have been on the HisKi database recently, but wasn't sure where to start with my Mäkäräinen line.Another researcher here suggested that my Sanna Lisa Mäkäräinen could be related to the Paltamo Mäkäräinens.I'm more interested in tracking this line backwards than forwards, so I might give HisKi another go.
Sara Wäyrynen is my great-great-grandmother.She left Finland with her husband and children around 1890.I'm trying to find out what happened to her brother, Matts, but so far no luck.
Cheers,
Hilary
p.s. I've also noticed the labels applied to some of the names in the old church records (such as "bonde" or "torp.").Do you know what the abbreviation "backst" might mean?As far as I could tell, it might refer to being a shepherd or a farmer having to do with animals? Thanks!
