Barbara-

I've looked on Heritagequestonline.com for the censuses- mind you, not all of them are scanned on yet, but I did find a John A. Piispanen and wife, Hannah, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the 1920 census. On these censuses, there is a spot on them that contains the origin of where the parents were born- if this is your John, both parents were born in Finland.

The 1920 census says that he was 33 years old at the time. He immigrated in 1895, and is still an alien. They had two daughters and a son- Helvi, John, and I can't make out the other name, but it starts with a V or U, all under the age of 5. John is listed as a laborer, and Hannah is not listed as working.

Have you tried Ellisislandrecords.org? They should be listed on the port records. You will have to look at the parish records on HisKi project in Kivijarvi and surrounding parishes to see about Susan and Lauri.
