Nurmoosta-

This is what I know about Clifford, Wisconsin- One, I had Finnish ancestors reside there. Secondly, the town of Clifford, to my understanding, no longer exists, simply because it was right on a county line, and I think it sort of dwindled down in population. This town was a Finnish settlement, and the timing you are looking in is about the time this settlement came about. Price County is the official county for Clifford records, so I would put that in a search engine and start there.

The Korpela surname caught my eye, but unfortunately, doesn't match to any that are in my family circle. Have you tried the HisKi project (spelled just like that)? Usually, HisKi had great information in regards to Price County Wisconsin and the Clifford settlements, the church records, etc, but I haven't been to the site since they changed the format.

I looked up on my limited resource for the census records for you, and I think it was just that- limited for me. I found a John Korpela, but he was married to a Sophia, with lots of kids by the 1920's in Wisconsin. So, I don't know if that's your man, unless Maria's middle was Sophia and she used that name. I tried looking up the Heinonen name, and got a few, but they were named Alex and a few other different names.

Do you know if they went by other names? I've run into that problem myself, my family wanted to sound American as possible. (not that these names don't sound it!)

Hope this is of some help.
