Kolppanen
I am searching for information on Johannes Kolppanen (1877-1961.) John came to America in 1899. He came from Lohtaja, Vaasa, Findland. His name was anglized to Colby. He married Matilda Peltomaa (Kauhajoki, Vassa, Findland) in Ashland, WI in 1901. She came to Ironwood, Mi in 1900. They were living in Sanborn, WI when they were married, probably with John's 1/2 brother. I also discovered they were in Ironwood & Bressmer MI.
They ended up residing in the gregarios town of Oulu, WI around 1904. Theybuilt a house & farmed, while raising 10 children; Wiano, William, Aili, Aina, Edwin (my Grandpa), Elmer, Elaine, Hilma, Linda,& Emil.
John Had a 1/2 Brother named Andrew Colby (1863-1943.) He came to America in 1885. He marries Minnie(1868-1945.) They lived in Iron River, WI in 1905 & had a tavern their. They also lived in Sanborn and resided in Oulu, WI.
I have a picture of a couple who are from Rovaniemi,Lapin Lääni, Findland. They are standing next to a petroleum tanker with the name Kolppanen on it, which they owned. My great uncle said we are related to him.
Other spellings I have seen are: Colbby, Calbby, & Kolbbe.
