Finger families in Illinois 1855 -1900

I am looking for a Finger family that adopted my grandfather when he was very young, aobout 1856 to 1865 some where in Illinois. The family story is that he came to America aboard a sailing vesel with his parents family. The family name was one of the many ways of apelling the name Rees both in Germany and here in America, Reis, Reise, Reic, Reice, Ries, Riese, Reis, Reise, Reitz, Reitze, Rietz, Rietze, etc. The parents and most of the family died aboard ship during the crossing leaving him and a sister. Upon arrival at New York harbor he was placed in an orphanage. The sotre says that either his sister was adopted there in New York or an aunt that lived near took her but not John H. Later John H. was placed on one of the "Orphan Trains" going to PA., OH, IL, IN, IO. He was adopted as th train passed through Illinois.

Family facts show John H. Finger, (name after adoption) geting married in LaSalle Count, IL., The 1880 census show the family as John H. Finger, Louis, wife, (Louisa Stroh), John F. Finger son, 5 months old.

John & Louisa had several children during their Years living in IL. and the moved to Greene County, Iowa living in Paton and later in Grand Junction.

Does anyone have any information that could help me locate the information about John H. Finger, the Finger family that adopted him, possible in the area of Lostant, IL. the "Orphan Train he was on" the Orphanage he was in in New York and the ship he came over on.

THank you very much for any little hint you might have.

Virginia Miner.
