MR. JOHN W. FINFROCK ANSWERS FINAL CALL
Prominent Resident of This Community Passes After Lingering Illness---Funeral Services from Family Residence on Tuesday Afternoon--Burial at Union Cemetery
After an illness of a good many weeks, John W. Finfrock answered the final call at the family home northeast of Altamont on Sunday evening, August 12th, at the age of seventy two years, five months and thirty days.
Mr Finfrock, son of the late Mr and Mrs Joseph Finfrock, was born near Zanesville, Ohio on February 13, 1851.He came to Effingham County with his parents when he was but a small boy.The family lived northeast of Altamont, and Mr Finfrock spent the rest of his life, after leaving the parental roof, near his boyhood home.
Mr. Finfrock was married to Miss Sarah J. Harris of Atlantic, Iowa on March 14, 1878.To this union were born eight children, three of whom preceded the father to the Great Beyond--two dying in infancy, and Mrs Lillian McVicker on January 3, 1916.The five surviving children are; Mrs Elisabeth Owens of Mattoon; William E. Finfrock of Decatur; Mrs Estella Wagoner of Mattoon; Louis and Besse, at home.In addition to the children and the sorrowing wife, Mr. Finfrock leaves three sisters, one brother, eight grand children, other near relatives and hosts of friends. He was a loving husband and father and was highly esteemed in the community in which he lived. He served as commissioner of highways in the town of Mound for twenty years, and was a recognized authority upon road building. He possessed a genial disposition and took great pleasure in his home, one of the best in the community. For several years he suffered with heart trouble, but was bedfast for only six weeks preceding his death. He realized that the end was near and sent loving messages to relatives, neighbors and friends, especially to his brother lodge men.Believing in the Christian faith, he bore his suffering patiently, saying that he would soon be at home with the loved ones over there.
Following funeral services from the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev P.O. Anderson, assisted by Rev L.A. Magill, burial took place at Union Cemetery.
