Ann,
It is possible that the Moses Findley you have in Gordon Co. in 1850 and the Moses Findley I have in Cherokee Co. in 1850 are one and the same person. We both have the same list of children for Moses and Catherine. The James Findley family appears on the 1840 census of Cherokee Co. GA(pg193).That year a Moses Findley was listed in Charooga Co. GA (pg 152).In 1850, Cherokee Co. GA, Margaret 80 is shown living with James Smith 47 and his wife Martha 36 and family.Moses Findley 50, is shown living next door (pg 518b)
Gordon Co. was formed in 1850. The SE corner of Gordon Co. and the NW corner of Cherokee Co. abut. Back then, county lines were less finite than they are today. It is possible they were counted twice, once in each county.
It is also possible that my information is incorrect as it was obtained from Don Sticher and I have not looked up the census records to verify his information.
Hope this helps!
