Edward, I'm sorry I'm late in responding. Your Nancy (Ann?) Ballard who married Gen. William Lenoir was a sister to MY Martha Ballard (1749-1827) who m. MY Edward Finch (1750-1823). We are talking about the same families, unless there were TWO Gen. William Lenoirs!. I have a copy of my Edward Finch's will. He would have been an older Edward than yours who no doubt was named for my Edward. Have you seen a copy of William Ballard's (d. before 1775) will? I found a copy in a gen. magazine. ...anyway, there were more than one Martha Finch...Dr. Ivy Finch, son of my Edward Finch named a daughter Martha. If you have proof of ancestry back to Elizabeth Clopton Ballard, you are eligible to be a member of "The Clopton Family Assoc." I think they have a web page. I dropped the membership several years ago - had no time for it then, but you can find them easily and would be a most welcome member, I'm certain. This makes you a direct descendant of 12 of the 25 Barons who signed the Magna Carta and your ancestry is proven much further back than that, too.... "The Clopton Family (1984) book is likely still available... Also "Finch Families of Dixie" (1972) may still be available from some family members of the author...Both are excellent publications, hard bound, and copies of both are in my possession. In my Edward Finch's will, he named some of his children and my "Sary" (Sarah) Eppes is one that is named. She m. James Baugh Eppes, son of John Epps....all from Newberry, SC., but the Finches and Epps emigrated from Virginia. I found Sarah Finch's obituary and she d. in Mississippi ..... we ARE cousins, many generations removed. If you want to hear more, I'll e-mail you direct ..... Edwina Price Snyder
