Nancy E.Finch, wife of Caswell Finch (b 1827)?

Who did Caswell Finch (b 1827 NC) marry? Nancy G. Beever, Nancy E. Beard or Nancy E. Beaver (variations)?

I believe Nancy E Beaver (variations).

I have received from the TN Carroll County Clerk a copy of the “Carroll County Transcribed Marriage Record from 1838 to 1860” (Bk A). P 250 shows a marriage license was issued Oct 18, 1852 to Caswell Finch to marry a Nancy, from then the details are obscured. The first name written in is Nancy G. Beever. An “E” is then written above the “G,” and “Beard” above “Beever.”

Then J. N. Linsey (J.P.) reported that he “solemnized the rite of matrimony between the within named parties” 20th Oct, 1852. But, who was the bride?

I then contacted the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Got back the same transcribed record but the original log as well. No correction there. The middle initial could be E which is what Nancy shows in the 1860 census (Panola Co MS). The surname is unclear but might as well be a variation of Beaver as any.

Why Beaver? There is a Nancy Beaver/Bever in the 1850 Carroll Co TN census, age 16, b TN. The “born TN” checks out with the 1860 and 1870 censuses for Nancy; the age, maybe. The 1860 census has Caswell’s wife Nancy as 23. Can’t explain that. But, by the 1870 census, she is 35 (widowed in Panola Co MS). Since that census was taken 15 June 1870 and the 1850 census 11 Dec 1850, the 35 would tally with someone 16 19 and ˝ years earlier.

The last name of the family is confused in censuses too. In 1850, David Beaver is listed as the last entry on page 139A. Susannah Bevers and 9 children pick up in the first entry on page 139B. A family no doubt. By the 1860 census, David and Susanna Beevers are still in Carroll Co TN with only 3 of the youngest children, starting with John. In 1870 Susan is with John Beavers in Randolph Co AR. There are no Beards or other likely variations in the 1850 Carroll CO TN census. But there are plenty of Finches to go round.

I note that David Beavers has a daughter Martha in 1850. Might that be the same Martha Beaver that married Isham Finch? In other words, did two sons of Williamson and Mary/Pollie Finch marry two sisters?

Can someone shed any light on the situation? Does anyone have other particulars for Nancy pre-marriage, or post-1870 census?

For that matter, does anyone have any census sightings for Williamson and Pollie later than 1860, other than her entry in the 1880 census Panola Co MS?
