David Finch 5/11/01
I made some copies from the microfilm of the mentioned book that included my ancestors...John Finch was one of them and I do not find info to substantiate some of what you have said...I quote from book:
"John Finch, born in England, brother of Abraham and Daniel, came to New England with them in the "Winthrop Fleeet" om 1630 amd settled first at Watertown.
When he removed from Watertown to Connecticut is doubtful.Holmes,in his "Ancestral Heads of New England Families" states that he removed to "Wethersfield in 1637".Adams in his "Ancient Wetherfield" states- "I find no evidence that he ever resided in Wethersfield excepting the fact that he was one of the pioneers of Stamford, a Wethersfield colony."Both Bond and Savage credit him to Wethersfield.Records of Mass. by Shurtleff give the following:
V 1 p 120 John Finch fined 7 Nov 1632
V1 p233 John Finch receives payment 5 Jun 1638
Records of Watertown, Mass, Lands Grants and possessions:
p8 John Finch granted 4 acres 28 Feb 1636
p13 John Finch granted another 4 acres 26 Jun 1637
p 18 John Finch drew the first lot and received 91 acres 10 May 1642
This wuld seem to place him in Watertown up to 1642.
In Oct 1642 he was assigned land amounting to 6 acres of marsh and upland "like the other men" in Stamford and was thereafter in Stamford. He was on each of the lists of the Stamford colony for the first three years.
8 Nov 1647court action, Daniel Mitchell vs John Finch
1647 David Mitchell and John Finch for debt
13 Feb 1648/9 Jeffrey Ferris sued John Finch.
1652 sold land to William Potts(Potter).
...26 Apr 1654 John Finch senior, testified.
Died 5 Sep 1657 in Stamford.
Inventory of estate filed in Stamford 1658 bears date of 9th day of 12th month 1658.
Widow Martha married as her 2nd, Sep 1658 John Green.
Children: John, Isaac, Samuel, Joseph, Martha."
