Thanks for responding to my messages. First, I think I misread your earlier message when I said 1644 was too late for John Finch to be married. You probably meant that son Daniel was married in 1644.
Second, our records show that it was probably Abraham Finch Jr who was killed in 1637. According to Winthrop's Journal, there were several settlers killed in Wethersfield that year by the Indians, but just which attack on what date the Finch fellow was killed in is uncertain. The Finch who died left a wife, elderly father, and minor son, who apparently was also named Abraham. In one history I read, a researcher said that different people had different Finches killed---one guy said Abr, another Daniel, and yet another John. There is a record of a John Finch moving to Stamford, CT, in 1642, and dying there 5 Sept. 1657. The elderly father of the Finch killed by an Indian is assumed also to be an Abraham. It is this Stamford John Finch who is our ancestor. Were you ever able to get any sources for your data? I would be particularly interested in sources for John's death and Daniel's marriage. Our records are from Thummel and land and vital records in Mass and CT. Please let me know what else you come up with.
