The following family is one in my direct line:

8) John FINCH
BIRTH: 15 JUN 1755, Salem, Westchester Co., NY
Father: Nathaniel FINCH
Mother: Hannah SCOFIELD
Family 1: Marie REIFSNYDER
MARRIAGE: NY
1. John FINCH
2. Nathaniel FINCH
3. Wallace FINCH
4. Samuel FINCH
5. James FINCH
6. Samuel FINCH
7. Elizabeth FINCH
8. Sarah FINCH
9. Amy FINCH
10. Mary FINCH

My direct line follows through Samuel, who came to Illinois (Whiteside County) via Ontario, Canada. After maybe twenty years in Canada (we're a bit fuzzy on the family line at this point, but I'm working on it) Nathaniel, James and Samuel came to Illinois around 1838. The father, John, also came, but probably a bit later.

Samuel's son, William Finch, was born in Canada in 1822 and married Elizabeth Thomas in Lyndon, Whiteside County, Illinois, in 1846. After the birth of his son (David Washington, my GGgrandfather) in 1850, it is surmised (though not known) that Elizabeth died, since William then married in 1852, Adaline Stagg Edgerly, a widower. They were married in Berrien Co., Michigan, with a Julius and a John Finch listed as witnesses. We have no idea what the connection is to Berrien Co., Michigan, or to John and Julius. However, I did find, in the 1845 and 1850 Censuses of St. Joseph Co., Michigan (off the net!) listing for both a John (b. and Julius (b. 1792). St. Joseph Co. is only two counties to the east from Berrien. There are also a few Finches who were married in St. Joseph Co., Indiana, whose relation is also unknown.

There was a decendant of Wallace Finch (listed above) in my information listed in LaPort Indiana - William B. Watson, 201 Maple St. - at least he was in the 1950s!). Wallace had at least 7 children - he lived in Ontario, and Steuben Co., NY, Licking Co., Ohio by 1826, then to Fairfield Co., OH, dying there in 1833. And, Wallace's brother, John, had children born in Indiana and Ohio (though I don't know where).

So - much of this information that I have gathered is circumstantial, but there is definitely some connection with my line and the John/Julius in St. Joseph Co., Michigan. I just have not yet figured out what it is.

For your possible interest, here's the info I pulled of the internet about the Finches in St. Joseph Co., Mich:

My strongest inclination is that the Finches in southern Michigan/northern Indiana are offspring and grandchildren of Either James who had 12 children or Wallace, who had at least 7 children, or John, who had a son Jonathan. Jonathan had the following:

It is very likely that your Christina is somehow related to the Finch families in St. Joseph Co. Maybe you could start there for further info.

I don't know if any of this information is helpful, or just confuses the issue (I know I am confused!). So - good luck!
