I don't know anything about the Finan man buried in St. Basil's Cemetery except that he came from the same parish as my great grandmother. It is interesting that my great grandmother was Susan Carroll, daughter of John Carroll and Nellie Finan. (John Carroll died in Ireland, probably in the late 1860s.) Susan was born in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon in 1851, I think it was, and emigrated to America in the 1860s or 1870s. She may have been in Vail, Iowa for a time, or perhaps near St. Louis. Eventually she and her sister, Elizabeth went up-river to Fort Randall, Dakota Territory where they worked as maids and Susan married a sergeant at the Fort.
