Looking for descendents of Eva Cora Filkins. Eva married a Mr. Lewis and stayed in the Wayland, MI area. She was the only child of Stephen and Mariette Filkins of Wayland, Allegan County, MI. The following information is from Will & Estate records for Allegan County, MI: Eva's father died in the civil war in April 1865. Her mother had remarried before her father died. Mariette married Chancy Parmelee in 1864. The family left the state but didn't take Eva with them. Eva's gardians: 1864 - ? 06/15/1865 - Samuel Haywood 07/07/1865 - John G. Colegrove (he resigned 12/15/1865) 05/19/1866 - Joseph M.C. Moon (still living with him in 1870 according to census). My ancestor's were Eva's aunt and uncle - Esther J. Filkins/Samuel Haywood. I'd like to find any family stories for Eva as to why she was shuffled around the way she was. Or why her mother didn't take Eva with her when she remarried. Did her mother divorce Stephen or was he declared KIA/MIA and that's why she remarried before he actually died. Thanks, Theresa Notify Administrator about this message?
