I was in Selma, Al this weekend visiting my sister Velma. We called James Leonard "Bubba" and Margaret Elaine Filgo in the phone book to see if we were related. They came over for lunch on Sunday and we put all of our things together. (Thanks to you Hal.) She has a letter from your brother Ward (Hal) on June 3, 1993. This family decended from Susan Ellender Filgo who was the last daughter of John W. and Mary (Polly)Filgo. We talked about Sarah Filgo and Madison County, AL since that is where I live. I plan to go to the Huntsville Public Library this week and see what I can find out about Sarah Filgo. It was mentioned that the Burke Family Record Research Franklin Co., AL might have something. It is called Valley Leaves.
Hal, I now have the family line from Susan Ellender Filgo until now. I'm so excited. I plan to send it to you soon. Apparently Susan was not married and moved to Alabama. She had a son J.T. James Taylor Filgo (took mother's last name). Maybe this was the reason she left her family and went to Al. because she wasn't married when she had him. She was a medicine women and married Archibald B. Brackness later in life. He was supposely a wild man who lived in the woods. Elaine & Bubba had a picture of J.T. with them. Bubba is not in good health and Elaine is the one who knows a lot about the family. It was such a pleasure to meet both of them.
