WARREN TOWNSHIP NEWS:
CHARLEY DE SOMBERS, who had his leg broken some six or eight weeks ago, is now able to go around on crutches and is staying in Derby for a few days.
MR. and MRS. FRANK TURNER accompanied by MISS NANNIE FIGHT of Derby, went to Chariton last Saturday.
MR. ESSEX, an aged gentleman who lives in southwestern Missouri, is visiting at the home of his son-in-law, TOM HAWKINS.
THOMAS MCGINNIS is in Des Moines attending the examination for the position of railway mail clerks.
BILLY LEAZEAR of Union Township was in this township Monday attending to work of his proffession -- a veterinary surgeon.
JOHN R. THROCKMORTON has a little girl very sick with pneumonia.
MR. JAMES SPENCER went into the neighborhood of Unity, five miles south of Humeston, last Sunday.
MR. W.H. BELL of Derby, who has been sick several weeks with bladder, kidney and stomach trouble, died on Monday morning, and the remains were interred in the Derby Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, by the Grand Army of the Republic Post of the village. He came to Lucas County perhaps twenty-five or more years ago from Muskingum County, Ohio, living for two or three years in Benton Township. In the spring of 1882 he purchased a farm in this township which he has ever since considered his home, although for a time residing in Derby. When he first came here his family consisted of a wife and seven children, but in a few years -- a short time it seemed to be -- first two of the daughters, then a son, then the wife and then another daughter, all died with that fatal disease, consumption. On the account of so much sickness perhaps, the family moved to Derby. MR. BELL had his faults no doubt as every one has, but he was a man of many noble traits of character and generous impulses and will be sadly missed by the neighbors and the remnant of his family. Peace to his remains.
