Ted, Thanks for your reply and your attempt to help! I can tell from your post that you are a person who makes quick assumptions without really bothering to check things out. Actually I am not anywhere close to being new to internet genealogy, I have been doing research on the net almost from the beginning of the WWW. Keeping in mind that even an old dog can learn new tricks, I did do you the courtesy of checking out some of the tips on your website and found some of them to be helpful. Your points about why "Please E-Mail" is a bad idea might be appropriate for someone who mainly researches by posting queries, but that has never been my approach. I only post queries on forums as a last resort, preferring to search the web on my own for information that I don't receive from those who contact me (by E-Mail) in response to viewing my websites. I prefer for those responding to my rare queries to do so by e-mail because most folks (myself included) will share more information, especially on the living, by private e-mail than they will on a public forum. Also, I am allowed to check my private e-mail from work, but am not allowed to access genealogy forum websites. As far as the information on RootsWeb WorldConnect, I have checked it thoroughly. Had you looked there more thoroughly, you would have seen that one of the GEDCOMs there with information on this line was authored by me. (I'm sure your site includes tips on checking alternative spellings, e.g. Fiefield/Fifield). Anyway, thanks again for trying to help! Notify Administrator about this message?
