GOURLAY / GOURLEY family from Fife

you will find a great deal of interesting material on this man; Member of Parliament for Sunderland for 32 years and co-founder of the Sunderland Echo for starters.

Why is it, with such a prominent citizen, that I cannot discover his paternal ancestors???? His father was John Young GOURLEY (1801-1867) of St Bede's Terrace Sunderland and he reputedly came from FIFE. There the trail goes cold as ice!
