How sure is everyone that Mary was Gregory's illegitimate daughter? It sounds like a lot has been written about Gregory's wife Anne hating Mary so much that she caused her name to be omitted or removed from most documents.Do we know that for sure, or is this something that someone speculated to explain Mary missing from Gregory's will, etc., and then has been taken as truth?I have only come across this information and have spent very little time checking it out, so maybe there is much more solid evidence than I am aware of, but it sure has the feel of speculation based on a strong desire to find some kind of parents for Mary.
I see a reference to the Wheatley genealogy book (published in 1902 according to the Wheatley family forum). My experience with other genealogies written a century ago is that they are not necessarily the most reliable.
Thanks for any help with this.My husband is descended from Mary Fienes.
