Hi David,
As I understand the ongoing discussion on the origin of this group of surnames, you are proposing that there is a surname group Foy/Fey originating in ancient France...more likely the Kingdom of the Franks or Roman Gaul.
And a separate surname grouping Fay/Fey that according to family history originates in the same area in the early portions of the Frankish Kingdom or more likely Roman Gaul.
The Fay/Fey group are known to include many Huguenots, and I could understand a Fey researcher in that area then being very perplexed as to which family tree to pursue.
So how do you feel someone could make that determination? Are there special dates or times or something that would allow one to clearly identify a family as of one group or the other?
