June,
According to the research I've done, Frederick Festerman was the son of John Festerman who moved from the Cabarrus Co, NC, area to the Mecklenburg Co, NC, area about 1795 when he married a woman there. John referred to himself as "Festerman" and the name stuck for a few years until most of his ancestors realized it is FESPERMAN and changed it back for themselves and their families.John Festerman was the son of Henrich Vespermann (which became Henry Fesperman when Anglicized). Your Dorcus Eloise had a first cousin (in addition to the sister, Mary A. Festerman who married J. D. Gordon and lived in MS) named Marcus A. Festerman who lived in Mississippi for awhile. He was a member of a Mississppi Regiment in the Civil War. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Gardiner and they had two children Angela (Festerman) Fesperman, b. 1856 and Alice R. (Festerman) Fesperman b. 1860. I don't know if they remained in MS. Both Mary A. Festerman Gordon and your Darkas Eloise(Festerman) Fesperman Cocke moved down to Mississippi from North Carolina, with their husbands, before the Civil War where they farmed and raised their families. Best regards, Raymond
