Hi, David! I don't know about the American Indian connection - every family has that myth, and they are really hard to track down. But I do know that the Cravens and Fesmires were barrel makers (coopers) and potters from way back. The name "Vassmeyer" in German means "barrelmaker" - and they were potters back in North Carolina before they came to west Tennessee. They intermarried several times in North Carolina and Tennessee. The Lexington potters made jugs for Jack Daniels, you know in Lynchburg! :-) I'd be interested in anything more you have about the Cravens and Fesmires.
