Joseph Fertig, 1883-1957

Hi. I have been trying to find out information on my great grandfather Joseph. I just have a couple of questions. Does anyone know anything about Anton Fertig and his wife Anna Ulrich? They lived on Eldridge street in New York at the time of the 1880 census. Both were from Bavaria. My great grandfather was an orphan train rider in 1894 and he went to Cherokee County, Kansas. On his marriage liscense, his mother is listed as Anna Kykol Ulrich. There is no such name as kykol, it is a slovic or Russian word. Does anyone have any idea what it means. One last thing, Anton supposedly beat Anna to death, around 1886ish. Any help would be wonderful.

Thank you,
Aubree
