Here's where I got some reasonably reliable info:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecordshttp://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords
also, the LDS Family Search website has Thomas, 30 Apr 1837, parents James and Mary, but clicking on those names came up empty.
The problem with James marrying Mary in 1865 is it's 27 years after Thomas was born.In fact, a Thomas was a witness at the wedding, possibly suggesting that he and THIS James could be brothers.Too bad the Irish lost their imagination and went from naming their sons Pierce, Muiris, Lucais, etc. to John, James and Thomas.
Anyway, the other thing that I have is an Ancestry message board, Subject: Ferriter-Shea, from Joanne Ferriter back in 1999.I just checked and it is still on the board.Unfortunately, she did not put in any dates, and she shows Thomas's father to be Sean na Cathrach, not James.
Also, recent postings in this Forum suggest that Pierce had a sister, Helen, who, when Pierce died (and before Maurice came back from France)talked her husband into changing their last name to Ferriter so the line would continue.I have no idea where that tree might go, or if our Thomas might go that way instead of the Morning Jim way.
My filing system leaves a bit to be desired but I'll keep digging.John - [email protected]
