There was a Lieutenant Joseph Ferris in Butler's Rangers. He was from Stanford, CT. Served six years, "A Farmer". His commission as a 2Lt was dated 8 Feb 1779; as a Lt 8 Sep 1781. He was court-martialled in Jul 1781 for attempting to "stir up a mutiny." Aquitted but found guilty of reprehensible conduct for writing an anonymous letter which alleged wrong doing on the part of Colonel John Butler. Ordered to publicly apologize. In Captain Andrew Bradt's company, 36 yrs oldd, with a wife and 3 children at Niagara in 1783.
You might also check the Township Papers which are in the Ontario Archives (on microfilm, I believe). Frequently ther are interesting items found no where else. The papers are organized by township lot and concession.
