I just found a copy of Ansel Ferrell's 1834 Thomas Co. GA will online, and in it he left everything to his son John M. Ferrell because John was "crippled and by poordanes rendered incapable of laboring for his support." Does anyone know what "poordanes" means? I checked on the antiquusmorbus website but they never heard of it either. Would this be a mis- or phonetic spelling of something else? And if so, What???
