Harry Elmer Ferrell was my first cousin.

He was born 5 May 1929 in Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, the son of Harry David Ferrell and Myrtle Ivy St. Clair.

He joined the Navy in 1948, and was a fireman onboard the USS Magpie, a 136-foot wooden-hulled minesweeper that struck a floating mine and sank 1 Oct. 1950 off the east coast of Korea. Twelve survivors were rescued by a sister ship, but 21 sailors, including Harry, went down with the ship and their bodies were never recovered, according to press reports at the time.
