Hi Paul,
My maiden name was Carswell also. In researching I came across Fernie as one of my g.g.grandparents.
I have info which reads in short.
William Fernie b. abt 1754 married Isabella Clark.
Son Robert Fernie b. 1774 married Janet Elder.
Daughter Isabel Fernie b. about 1806 married John Carswell.
These all took place in Cash Feus, Strathmiglo, Scotland.
It's interesting that we have the same surnames.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Eleanor.
