Dear Walter,
Many thanks for your note.I do not know yet
where my Ferguson line came from.
My third great grandfather, Amos Ferguson was
born just before the war, 1775, in NY.I have wondered whether the family was symphathetic to the revolution and came down from Canada. The trail is cold before Amos; I have not even found any record of his birth except for a note by his son, my second great grandfather, Stephen A. Ferguson who eventually settled down near Jamestown, NY.
Most of the rest of the family that accompanied Amos on his trek with his family from eastern NY to Jamestown had been very early settlers (1600s) in RI and MA.Most of them were Quakers and one, Mary Dyer, was hanged by the Puritans for her faith.
Regards,
Tom
