I have been updating my data on Peleg Ferguson and I now have conflicting data on the name of his father.
His mother is known to be Sarah Bridgforth and she is reported on these pages as having been the second wife of John Ferguson Jr.
However:
James Farguson of King & Queen County patented land in Amelia County in 1739 and 1757, a total of 1550 acres on Hurricane swamp. James Ferguson deeded 600 acres of this to his son Robert Ferguson in 1747 and apparently died about 1762 and then in 1763 Robert Ferguson deeded 300 acres of the remaining 950 to Peleg Ferguson all of it along Hurricane Creek.
These records make it clear that the father of Robert and Peleg Ferguson was James Farguson of King & Queen County.
From the Will of THomas Bridgforth 1763 we know that Sarah Bridgforth Ferguson was the mother of RObert and Peleg Ferguson therefore Sarah Bridgforth married James Farguson of King & Queen County. When Robert died his estate along Hurrican Creek was divided among the children named in Bridgforth's will
I think this will help clear up some of the Ferguson genealogy because people have always listed the two wives for John Ferguson Jr, ie Sarah Gatewood and Sarah Bridgforth and have never been able to satisfactorily date the childrens births. I am proposing here that Sarah Bridgforth and her children should be detached from John Ferguson Jr and reassigned as the wife and children of James Farguson of King & Queen County. Where this James fits into the John Ferguson + Ann Stubbleson family I do not know and perhaps there is no near connection.
