Many years ago my wife and I, Americans, lived in Nassau, on New Providence Island in the Bahamas for a couple of years and were considerd something of a curiosity - Caucasians named Ferguson. There were several Fergusons in the islands, and we were told that many of them were descendants of slaves who had taken the name of a former owner a couple of centuries earlier.
