I know there are a lot of you genealogists out there who are descended from the Ferguson/Case families of Rensselaer and Oswego Counties, New York. I've talked to a few of you. My big mystery at this point is what happened to my great-grandfather, J. Edwin Ferguson who was the son of Jonathan Ferguson (1802-1857), one of the sons of James Ferguson and Joanna Case.
J. Edwin Ferguson lived in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Maria Florence Maginnis, and their two small daughters. He was employed by the U.S. Dept. of the Interior. For some reason, he died at age 32 in Sioux Falls, SD. Why was he there? What did he die of? Was he really there? Where is he buried--SD, or Washington DC, or...? I especially want to know if he has a grave and a death certificate, and where. SD was a territory then, not a state.
If anyone knows (doubtful!) or can help me with the best places to get the answers fast, much appreciated!
