I have Johannes Ferdon Verdon born1687, father is Jacobus Fardon and the following notes:
Register of the Early Settlers of Kings County, Long Island, New York, p. 112-1 3:Bought Feb. 27, 1693-4, as per town rec. of Lawrense Janse a farm in [New U trecht] Lane, to which he probably removed, being at that date a resident of th e town.On ass. roll of N.U. of 1693 and cen. of 1698. Pardon, Jesse, The E arly Dutch Ferdon/Perdun/Verdon Families in America, Brigham City, UT, p. 25: Baptismal record shows witnesses Mr. Paulus Vander Beeck (father's mother's hus band), Mr. Gysbert Van Inbroeck (mother's father or brother), Aeltje Braconje ( father's grandmother). p. 33:"[I]t's probable Jacobus and Femmetie moved to [her mother's] farm four miles east of Gowanus after their marriage. . . ."Th eir first four children were baptized at the Brooklyn church."It is my belief that Jacobus and his family moved to New Utrecht (three miles south of Gowanus ) about 1686.He was shown on their 1693 tax list, and land records show jacob us bought a twelve morgen farm on New Utrecht Lane (now 18th Avenue) in 1694. Jacobus is also shown on the 1698 New Utrect census as having seven children in his household." The name was changed during the 1680s from Verdon to Fardon, as is shown on several church baptism records. p. 34:"After Thomas-1's deat h in 1698/9, Jacobus inherited their family farm at Gowanus. The farm was loca ted just east of what was later Third Avenue, between 20th Street and 25th Stre et.[The adjoining farms were owned by Jacobus' half-uncles, Paulus Van Der Be eck, Jr. and Arie Benet, Sr.]His older three sons continued to operate the fa rm at New Utrecht.Jacobus served as the Brooklyn constanble in 1701 and 1705. In 1720 Jacob Jr. married in New York City and remained there.Jannetie and her family moved to Hackensack, and Jacobus sold his five Kings Co. farms in pr eparation for his retirement. p. 44:"New York City Dutch Church records also show Jacobus and his wife became members there in early 1721."Femmetje died in early 1728.Jacobus moved to Schraalenberg soon after that and probably sta yed there from 1730 till his death in 1740; he had three married daughters livi ng there by then. "In the name of God, Amend.I, Jacob Fardon, of Scrallinb urgh, in Bergen County, New Jersey, yeoman, being very ancient, yet of sound mi nd, this April 3, 1740.I leave to my eldest son Thomas L10 and no more, and i t is my will that he shall pay to my executors the sum of L275 for which he has given his bond to me, dated August 30, 1715.My executors are to pay my daugh ter Mary the sum of L6 yearly, after the death of her husband, Frans Vanderburg h.I leave to my son-in-law, Jacob Bennitt L100; If he dies, then to his child ren.I leave to my daughter Jannettie, wife of Adolphus Brower, L100.To my d aughter Femmittee, wife of Barent Bloom, L100.To my daughter Dericke, wife of Andries Westervelt, L100.All the rest of my estate, real and personal, I lea ve to my 3 sons, William, Jacob, and Johanes, and make them executors."David and Fredrick may have been intentionally disinherited; Thomas had a L265 net lo ss and daughter Maritie would not receive unless she outlived her husband.
