Fennhahn Family Information

I guess someone has to be the first to enter a message. I don't think that there are too many Fennhahn's out there, but anyone wanting to research them might find this helpful anyway. Here is what I have on my family:

My father immigrated to the U.S. about 1930. He was born in 1924, his brother Arthur was born in 1929, his sister Jean after 1930. He came over with his mother, Anna Hessman. His father had already come over before that, along with some other Fennhahn's through Ellis Island.

Other Fennhahn names I saw that I know are related are Julius,Karl, Ottilie, and Heinrich. There was an Alwine who I believe was related, although I'm not sure how. My grandfather was Wilhelm Fredrick Fennhahn. I know that we have other relatives in Germany, but since I can't speak German and they don't speak English, I've procrastinated about contacting them. My grandfather had at least one brother, Emil, who was still alive, last I heard, and was over 100 years old. He also had a son, Emil. I believe that Alwine may have been a sister to my grandfather, but I'm not sure. A woman that I knew as "Tante Augusta" helped to bring most of my family over and I believe Julius Fennhahn was her son. Tante Augusta married someone named Lysagth and lived in NY.

I have been in touch with a Dietmar Fenhahn in Dresden, Germany who says he has more information but has not been able to send it to me yet due to problems with flooding in that area. He has told me that the name was originally Von Hahn and they had been part of a group of Germans who immigrated to an area in Russia, Bessarabia, I believe, at the invitation of Catherine the Great. I believe the Germans were expelled from Russia some time later.

I would love to hear from anyone who might have any information on this family.

Pat
