Dear Mauryne,
Thank you for your rapid and welcome response to my message. Yur description of the Fennells drivung the horses to Egypt, really caught my imagination. It was also lovely to get some sense of Annie's family and to learn of how they might have met the keatings. Below is a summary of Paddy's family, and I will try to contact you off-list more information and some photos. I don't want to bore fennell researchers on the list with excessive details of my family!
Pat's family were the Keatings of Powerstown Castle, Clonmel Co Tipperary. His grandfather was Stephen (1803-1869) and his father was Micheal (1838-1916) who had a 80 acre farm. His mother, Catherine Hickey (1857- 1918), came from Rathogally, near Newcastle (about 8 miles from Clonmel). Her family were well known and respected, and members were active in local politics and one was a magistrate. At least two brothers Charles L. and James and a sister, Ellen (Nellie) m. Zufelt settled in Kansas City. Charles’s daughter, Margaret Hickey Strubinger was recognised as one of the most influential American women of the 20th Century and there is information on her and a collection of her papers in the University of Missouri, St Louis.

The children were Anne (who died in infancy in 1878), Stephen Joseph {Steed (1879-1958)}, John {Jack (1881 1964) m. Mgt O Keefe}my Grandfather, Moira Eileen {Molly 1882-1952)}, Bridget Agnes{ Bridie m. Griffin (1883-1958)}, Patrick {Paddy(1886-??) m. Annie Fennell} ,Walter Bernard {Watt (1887-1969)}, Anne (details unknown), Josephine Mary {Judy (1892-1985)}, Richard {Dick (1895-1921) m. Margt Harney}.

Pat and Walter lived in New York and would have interacted with the Hickeys in Kansas. I have no evidence of earlier Keating ancestors settling in the US.

Molly, Judy, Steed and Bridie settled in the UK with only Bridie marrying. All were successful, with the girls operating a nursing home and Steed was a civil servant after a distinguished record in WW1.

Jack stayed at home inheriting the family farm and Richard was a business man, owning a shop in Kilsheelin (near Clonmel). His first wife died young and he married her sister. He himself died from a burst appendix within a relatively short time afterwards, leaving four daughters.

There were Keating cousins in Nicholastown and at Grange (near Clonmel) who bred and continue to breed horses and it is highly likely that they would have done business with the Fennells.

Hope this is of interest
John
