Unfortunately he does not seem to be in my line. Hopefully this helps somebody. I tried to spell things just as they were written.JOURNAL OF JEREMIAH FENN Front page Stephen Fenn went to live with his granddaughter Woodbridge April 3rd 1838 and returned home to live the 6th of Oct. 1840. Page 2 Plymouth June 11, 1838. We raised our Meeting House. We sow(ed) our buckwheat June the 30th. Finished sowing second time corn 4th of July Independence day. Began haying early the 12th Began our Harvest July the 16th. Finished getting in our harvest July the 20th The 25th of July sew (ed) my turnip beds The first Sunday in September we began our meetings. September 15th we cut our buckwheat Oct 10th we harvested our buckwheat. And from one bushel and a half of sew (ed) we had 100 (?) bushels. Oct 20th we sew (ed) our fallow with rye. Oct 22nd I together with my wife and Horace went to Woodbridge Tuesday went to Hartford Friday returning home Oct 28th we had our first snow storm Nov 13th we finished gathering our turnips. Nov 16th we made our cider 4 barrels Nov 21st our Meeting House was dedicated. Aaron Warner died December 15th 1838. Stephen came home March the 26th I went back to Woodbridge with Stephen April 8th 1839 and returned the 10th April the 20th we sewed our spring wheat. Page 3 October the 12th 1839 we spread out our house Oct 21st my wife and I and Horace went to Woodbridge and New Haven and returned the 25th December the 3rd we butcher (d) our pig wd. 329 lbe. = deciph Dec 15th we had our first snow storm it fell verry = 1840 January 12th (somebody's) little Jed died suddenly Feb 19th I butchered our pig we had of 45 wd 130 lb Feb 9th I bought a pig of Holt for $100. =birkshire Feb 9th I bought a pig of Hiram Fenn = May 9th we had a Fitidus (ferocious?) storm of _____ Rain hail and more 1840 May 14th I began planting corn May 20th ????????????????? The last week in this month we implanted the piece north of Habz so called with corn and white beens and plain (smudged) Tomatoes and went on the road suffice To (something that looks like hay) our highway. June 22nd 23rd and 24th we got Curtis Spe July 1ths we finished sowing in corn second. July 2nd we began our haying. Page 4 July the 15th 1840 I being 50 years of age Owe ser to our buckwheat the 17th Fi big on Cutting our rye the 21st we got it in. The 25th I sew (d) my turnips. __________ The 28th Stephen came home Aug 7th we finished our haying. Aug 13th Stephen left home for Woodbridge The same day we cleaned out our wells. August 27th we sewed the lot west new lot rye September 1st we sewed west of the bush lot with rye. Sept. 7th Wife I and Horace went to Woodbridge. And we returned September the 19th. Sept. the 19th we spread out our flax. Gunter Sperry was married 22nd of September. Oct. 2nd we cut our buckwheat. Oct. 12th we finished our cider 5 barrels. Oct. 19 we finished gathering our corn. Oct. 24th Apollos Tanner died The night of the 25th we had our first snowstorm November 26th we (butchered?) our Birkshire (a bunch of scribbles) 236lb Dec 23rd we butchered the other pig w. 193 The same day butchered a lamb 40 Page 5 May 14th 1841 We finished sowing our oats. Finished planting potatoes in the field. May 21st planted (the rest scratched out) William F. Fenn's and share, I agreed to find All the seed do all the work harvest my 1/2 of the crop work 1 day housing and planting it took 4 bushels of seed. ______ housing 3 hours. May 26th finished planting corn June 2nd planted our white beans June 10th raised our barn William Fenn housed his calf In our pasture June 9th June 12th finished sowing corn first time Do ….16th began covering our barn Do do I sowed our rutabagas Do 17th finished sowing potatoes first time. July 5th planted our corn second time Do (smudged) sowed our buckwheat July 8th sowed our potatoes second time July 9th Gunter Sperry finished his work in the back lot. July 12th we began haying. William Fenn took his wife away quickly. July 17th got in our rye 22 shocks. Page 6 August 2nd 1841 finished our haying August 3rd sowed our white beans August 5th got in our oats. Lilched old swamp August 14th 1841 Began getting out shingles Aug. 2nd & 4th Gurned away heifer September 3rd September 18th finished sowing rye Gravestone set wife September 20th 1841 Sept. 21st turned farthing cows in to meadow. Cut buckwheat 27th Sept 28th began shingling house 1842 planted a piece of corn west of the bush lot May 13th Mr Landerson turned his cow into our lot May 16th the old cow calved 2 pigs of Holt May 12th price $1,25 Cts. A piece August 12th bought a 4 year old Cow from Johnathen Drimber for $20 Page 7 Oct 13, 1842 I traded our twin cattle with Leveritte L. Bassett for a Yoke of two year old fleirs and $25 to boot. I was made a freeman April 1st 1873 April 10th help'd brake a path Through to town April 11 people (something I can't make out) Our house in cutters April 24th bought 8 cows 73 lbs of hay of Leveritt S. Bassett August 28th 1843 Swapped cows with Blenda (?) Beech Page 8 Dec 18th 1848 We butchered our hogs Their (combined) weight amounted to 852 lbs. Their several weights were 222 242 388 Page 9 February 20th 1849 the house is Insured with the other buildings Furniture, hay for $1000.00 August 13th 1851 insured in the Aetna Company Hartford, gave up the policy in the Warington Co. mutual insured for 5 years for 1,000.
