Hi Don,
The FELDER surname somehow connects to my tri-racial line
of WEEDEN,WHILDEN,WEELDON/BROWN in SC; I have not been able
to make ANY connections, so am always looking for help.
Found you first as you responded to postings by JC(JANE CURCI) who listed some WEED surname info; Jane was in touch
w/me for a while, but I am hoping for more info.
I have come across the WEED surname and wonder too, if that
is not a connection to my line.
I have been working on a connection to the RI WEEDEN surname which I strongly feel links to my line, and am still hoping for a response to a query I have concerning
an ANN TILLINGHAST WEEDEN, who is listed as AfricanAmerican, and one of two Blacks who graduated from
Brown U in the the 1800s.
I have yet to figure out any of this, but know that some
RI slavers removed to Charleston, SC to avoid paying heavy
taxes for owning slaves, and there are just too many similar names in both places to dismiss a connection.
What I am hoping most to find is the Native ancestry info
for my line; I suspect that my ggrandfather, WM LAWRENCE
WEELDON, born in 1829 SC, may have been of mixed Indian
heritage, but I am unable to track.
Suspect also, that my ggrandmother, CHARATA BROWN, mulatto,
born 1833 NC, may have some connection to the mixed race BROWNS of RI, but fail to track Her line as well.
Also, cannot help but think that there is a connection to
Quakers in NC, as my ggrands were able to purchase their own home in 1880 Wilmington, NC in 1880.
Hope something here is of interest, and that you will get
back to me.
Sincerely,
carol wheeldin warren.
