Clues? Joseph H. Feeter, b. Germany 1846 (Civ. War soldier)?!

Hi, Feeter/Vetter cousins.

I have located a Joseph H. Feeter, b. 1846, served in the 100th and later the 148th NY Infantry in the Civil War who may or may not be related to we Feeters, or Vetters who have been in the US/Canada since 1750; which is puzzling because this Joseph Feeter's Civil War record says he was born in Germany; lived in NY, Mich. and later filed pension papers from Bird Island, Minn. Wife: Nancy J. (Rhodes) Feeter; married Feeter in South Haven, Mich.

I am guessing he may have been a Vetter family member/cousin of our's who came over just before the Civil War?

CAN ANYBODY CONNECT HIM TO OUR VETTER/FEETER, ETC. LINE?

Thanks,
Clay Feeter
