I would try researching your father using ancestry.com

You do have to pay for it, but check your local library. Many libraries have a library version of the Ancestry database (available only in the branches) you could use.

Or maybe you could search through the postings here. I've seen plenty of posts for a Feeney family from Ontario that branched out into New York. Personally, my Feeney family is from Ontario. There is also quite a bit of information on the Feenys from Sligo county.
