Helen: I took a moment and looked in my Irish telephone directory, Longford is in area code 04 which is quite a large area (the band/swarth runs from the midlands, north to Northern Ireland then Southeast to the Irish Sea to Wicklow/Arklow region, which is maybe 40 miles South of Dublin - BUT NOT include the city of Dublin which is code 01) That is one HUGE area, I'd guess maybe 20% of the Republic - any way this directory is 1992 - 93 and lists only 25 Feeney's as having telephones in 04 but listed approx. 500 Lynchs !! So much for my Lynchs are from Galway idea. I then looked carefully as to the location of each Feeney listed and found only 5 to be listed in Co. Longford - I thought I might as well furnish their addresses, so here you are:
Annie, Clonkee, Co. Longford
Fergus, Solicitor, New St., Longford (town) Co. Longford
James, 23 Springlawn, Longford (town) Co.Longford
John, Cloonkee, Co. Longford (note spelling one O or two??)
Thomas, Kilmore Cross, Co. Longford
You might try contacting these folks directly ... good chance they might be a relation
