George;
A couple thoughts: first I have found my Fetherstons to be from Co. Roscommon, Ireland-they did migrate to Co. Longford and Co. Westmeath. They did of course originally come from England. They were both Protestant and Catholics, pro-irish and pro-english. I believe Ardagh, Co. Longford was the seat of the Fetherstons. So, in Ireland you might want to look in those areas. Also I read the response from Elaine Bailey--I don't know if you are familiar with Massachusetts geopgraphy, but Hopkinton and Milford are neighboring towns. Hopkinton is the actual starting point of the Boston Marathon. So if you know your ancestors were in Milford--these Hopkinton Fetherstons would be worth looking into. And yes there are many variant spellings of the name.
Marie
